A new rumor about the Resident Evil franchise is stirring up some excitement among fans on the internet. According to a recent claim, Capcom has not one, not two, but five new Resident Evil games in the pipeline.
The Source
Our intel comes from none other than the enigmatic leaker known as Dusk Golem. Dusk Golem has a solid track record of accurate leaks, having previously spilled the beans on projects like Resident Evil Village and the new Silent Hill 2 remake. The latest buzz? A total of five Resident Evil titles are currently simmering in Capcom’s development cauldron.
As to what they could be, it’s anyone’s guess, but the source claimed that one of the games would be an all-new adventure – Resident Evil 9, perhaps? Most likely. But what could the other 4 games be? Chances are very good that at least one of them (if not more) will be a remake of an earlier game in the series. Fans seem to be mostly speculating that it could be a remake of the original game, although the game was already remade once before, originally for the Nintendo GameCube. Resident Evil: Code Veronica would also be a prime candidate for a remake, although Capcom already skipped it when they went from the RE3 remake straight to RE4.
Even assuming two of the five games currently in development are remakes, and the other one is Resident Evil 9, that still leaves two mystery titles. What could they be? This is just our speculation, but here’s what we think are the most likely:
A Resident Evil Spin-Off
Don’t forget the spin-offs! Capcom has dabbled in side stories before, such as Resident Evil: Revelations and Umbrella Chronicles. Could we get another dose of survival horror from a different perspective? Maybe a game centered around Ada Wong, Barry Burton, or the mysterious Umbrella organization?
A Resident Evil Mobile Game
This one seems most likely. Mobile gaming is on the rise, and Capcom knows it. Could we see a mobile-exclusive Resident Evil game?
Something Else?
Sometimes, Capcom throws us a curveball. Could there be a completely unexpected Resident Evil project in the works? Perhaps a crossover with another beloved horror franchise? Or maybe another VR release of an existing game like RE4 VR Mode?
